APC E-REGISTRATION DEADLINE LOOMS AS ONDO SOUTH FALLS BEHIND IN MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

The Ondo South Senatorial District of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing mounting pressure to intensify mobilisation efforts following an eight-day extension of the party’s ongoing electronic membership registration exercise approved by the National Working Committee (NWC).

Latest figures obtained as of 8:15 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2026, indicate that Ondo South currently trails behind Ondo North and Ondo Central in total registered members across the state.

According to the data, Ondo North leads with 57,830 registered members, representing 35.6 per cent of the state total, followed closely by Ondo Central with 56,364 members (34.7 per cent). Ondo South, however, recorded 48,201 members, accounting for 29.7 per cent of the overall registrations.

The cumulative number of registered APC members in Ondo State currently stands at 162,395.

Ondo South Breakdown Raises Concern

A further breakdown of registrations within Ondo South shows uneven performance across the six local government areas:

Ilaje LGA: 10,907 members (6.7% of state total), ranking first in the South and sixth statewide

Odigbo LGA: 10,054 members (6.2%), second in the South and ninth statewide

Okitipupa LGA: 8,158 members (5.0%), third in the South and tenth statewide

Irele LGA: 6,943 members (4.3%), fourth in the South and thirteenth statewide

Ese-Odo LGA: 6,106 members (3.8%), fifth in the South and fifteenth statewide

Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo LGA: 6,033 members (3.7%), sixth in the South and seventeenth statewide

Political observers say the figures highlight the need for urgent, coordinated mobilisation across the district if Ondo South is to close the widening gap before the extended registration window closes.

Call for Coordinated Mobilisation

Reacting to the development, the Ondo South APC E-Registration Coordinator, Comrade Adebayo Lawrence (JP), stressed that while individual efforts were ongoing across local governments, the district required a unified strategy similar to the mobilisation drive recorded in parts of Akokoland and Akure.

He called on political leaders within the district to take full responsibility for driving the registration exercise in their respective areas, warning that numerical population strength must be reflected in formal party registration.

Appeal to Governor Aiyedatiwa

Comrade Lawrence also appealed to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, describing him as a key stakeholder and an illustrious son of Ilaje Local Government Area, to intervene by convening a strategic meeting of political leaders and appointees from Ondo South.

According to him, such an engagement, backed by clear mobilisation directives, could provide the momentum required to boost registration figures within the remaining days.

Eight Days to Reverse the Trend

With just eight days left in the extended registration period, party stakeholders say the coming days will be critical in determining whether Ondo South can reverse the current trend and strengthen its standing within the ruling party.

The registration exercise is considered vital to the APC’s internal organisation and future political planning in Ondo State, ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
