NUT DECLARES INDEFINITE STRIKE IN OYO The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has declared an indefinite strike in Oyo State following the continued abduction of teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area of the state. The union directed all primary and secondary school teachers across Oyo State to withdraw their services beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, pending the safe release of all victims. The directive was contained in a joint statement issued by the NUT National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, and the Secretary General, Dr. Clinton J. Ikpitibo. According to the union, the decision became necessary due to the prolonged captivity of the victims, who were reportedly abducted on May 15, 2026, and the lack of significant progress in rescue efforts despite repeated appeals to authorities and security agencies.
