APGA CHIEFTAIN BACKS SOLUDO’S MOVE TO END MONDAY SIT-AT-HOME IN ANAMBRA

A senior member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chinedu Obigwe, has publicly supported Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo on his decision to terminate the Monday sit-at-home directive, describing it as a measure in the best interest of residents and the South-East region at large.

Obigwe, National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, urged citizens to heed the governor’s call, stating that leadership often requires making difficult decisions to secure the future.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, Obigwe said:

“Residents of Anambra must support Governor Soludo’s commendable move to end the Monday sit-at-home because it is clearly in our best interest. This decision will restore normal economic activity and protect the livelihoods of traders and citizens.”

He further explained that misinformation and social media campaigns aimed at discouraging residents from resuming work were being circulated by opponents of the state. “Enemies of Anambra are using old tactics to instil fear. Threatening videos posted online are meant to keep people at home, but the state is secure, and the authorities are fully prepared to respond to any criminal threats,” Obigwe added.

The APGA chieftain highlighted that Governor Soludo’s approach reflects a proactive leadership style, prioritising the welfare of citizens over convenience. He also referenced the temporary closure of Onitsha Main Market, affirming that the measure was intended to protect traders and the broader economy.

Obigwe emphasised the readiness of security operatives in monitoring the state, ensuring that residents can resume work on Monday, February 2, 2026, without fear of intimidation or disruption.

He also criticised a recent lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking damages over the one-week market closure, describing the action as contrary to the interests of the people and supportive of the now-ended sit-at-home directive.

“Governor Soludo has shown strong commitment to the development and protection of Anambra State. His decisive action against the Monday sit-at-home demonstrates leadership that prioritises the economy and safety of residents,” Obigwe concluded.

The governor has maintained that there will be no reversal of the policy, calling the sit-at-home practice a form of “calculated economic sabotage” that the state can no longer tolerate.
