GOV AIYEDATIWA LEADS 5KM HEALTH WALK IN AKURE, HAILS FITNESS AND SPIRITUAL RENEWAL

As part of Ondo State’s golden jubilee celebrations, Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Saturday led a 5-kilometre health walk from the Government House, Alagbaka, to the Akure Township Stadium, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness and spiritual renewal for effective service and healthy living.

Members of the State Executive Council, political appointees, party faithful, and residents participated in the exercise, with large crowds expressing elation at the governor’s initiative.

Speaking at the stadium, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged citizens to commit to strengthening both body and spirit. Drawing on biblical references, he said waiting upon God renews strength, highlighting that the participants demonstrated resilience by completing the walk without fainting.

“The health walk is a vital component of our anniversary programme. The body, which carries the soul and spirit, must be kept in good condition to function effectively,” the governor stated. He noted that regular physical activity enhances cardiovascular health, improves breathing, and supports overall wellbeing, warning that a weak or sick body could negatively affect both the soul and spiritual connection.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed satisfaction with the turnout, adding that the exercise concluded successfully with no injuries reported. He also commended the anniversary planning committee, led by Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, for their coordination.

The governor announced that the state’s anniversary activities would continue on Sunday with a thanksgiving service at St. Thomas Church, Akure.
