AIYEDATIWA DEPLOYS 10 AMBULANCES, SECURITY VEHICLES TO STRENGTHEN HEALTHCARE AND SAFETY IN ONDO
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has commissioned 10 ambulances, received 10 patrol vehicles for security agencies, and presented official cars to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery, enhance security operations and strengthen public service efficiency in Ondo State.
The presentation ceremony took place on Friday at the Government House in Akure, where the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to practical interventions that directly impact residents. He stated that effective healthcare delivery goes beyond policy pronouncements and the construction of hospital buildings, stressing that access to quality drugs and prompt transportation to medical facilities are critical components of a functional health system.
According to the governor, the state’s pharmaceutical framework has been reinforced to ensure the supply of genuine and unadulterated drugs across public health institutions. He added that ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects are expected to reduce travel time during emergencies, while local government councils continue grading rural roads to improve accessibility. The state government, he noted, has also been providing ambulances and tricycles to support primary healthcare services in underserved communities.
Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that the newly commissioned ambulances would strengthen emergency response, particularly in evacuating accident victims and critically ill patients from homes and road crash scenes to hospitals. He further disclosed that a GNC survey aimed at equipping hospitals across the state is currently at the benchmarking stage before the State Executive Council.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, said the fleet comprises three advanced life-support ambulances and five basic life-support ambulances, describing the procurement as one of the most significant in recent years. He added that additional ambulances have been captured in the current year’s budget to further expand emergency medical services.
On security, the governor revealed that Sunbeth Global Concept, led by Olasunkanmi Owoeye, donated 10 Toyota Hilux vehicles to bolster security operations in the state. He said the vehicles would be deployed to the police, civil defence, the military, the air force, airport authorities and the anti-land-grabbing task force, urging the agencies to use them strictly for official duties to enhance coordinated security response.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also presented official vehicles to Permanent Secretaries, describing civil servants as the engine room of governance. He maintained that incentives such as promotions, bonuses, leave allowances and official vehicles are essential to improving morale and productivity within the civil service, while cautioning against unauthorised personal use of government property.
The Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, noted that the exercise represents the second phase of vehicle distribution to senior civil servants, adding that only a few retirees and a new set of Permanent Secretaries are yet to benefit. Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretaries, Mrs. Yemi Pirisola expressed appreciation to the governor and pledged continued loyalty and commitment to improving service delivery for the people of Ondo State.
The combined interventions in healthcare, security and civil service support form part of broader efforts by the Ondo State Government to strengthen critical public institutions and improve service delivery across the state.
