2027: AKINGBASO CLARIFIES OLD VIRAL VIDEO, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR APC

AKINGBASO CLARIFIES OLD VIRAL VIDEO, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR APC

Hon. Festus O. Akingbaso, member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has addressed a resurfaced video circulating online, describing it as outdated and misleading in the context of his current political position.

In a statement issued on March 29, 2026, Akingbaso explained that the video in question was recorded several years ago during his time as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He noted that his comments in the footage reflected his views at the time, shaped by his experiences and political alignment then.

According to the lawmaker, expressing criticism of opposing political parties is a normal part of democratic engagement, especially as a non-member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the time. However, he emphasized that his approach has since evolved.

Akingbaso stated that his current stance is informed by what he described as deeper reflection and observation of the APC’s governance style. He highlighted the party’s structure, development-focused agenda, and what he termed a proactive approach to national issues as factors that influenced his decision to join the ruling party.

He also referenced the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a contributing factor in shaping his present political outlook.

Using a metaphor to explain his transition, Akingbaso said his decision to align with the APC was an “internal evolution,” driven by a desire for growth and progress. He added that constructive engagement within the party now guides his contributions to governance.

The federal lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to unity, development, and the collective interest of his constituents, urging the public to view the resurfaced video within its proper context.

Akingbaso currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation.
