AKINSUROJU’S PERFORMANCE RECORD FUELS SECOND-TERM DEMAND IN ONDO CONSTITUENCY
Residents of Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Constituency in Ondo State have continued to express support for the re-election of Honourable Nelson Akinsuroju, citing what they describe as visible and people-oriented representation at the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Feedback from constituents and a review of the lawmaker’s 2025 activities indicate a focus on key sectors such as education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and social welfare—areas widely regarded as central to grassroots development.
One of the initiatives frequently highlighted by residents is the provision of free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration for students within the constituency. The programme, alongside scholarship schemes for indigent students, has been noted for helping to reduce financial barriers to higher education.
In the area of employment, Akinsuroju is credited with facilitating job opportunities for constituents across several state institutions, including the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), the State Judiciary, the Primary Health Care Board, and the State Civil Service. Community stakeholders describe these efforts as part of broader attempts to address unemployment at the local level.
Infrastructure development has also featured in his legislative record. Projects attributed to his office include the rehabilitation of the Ogbontuntun Bridge and the clearing of waterways in Ile-Oluji to reduce erosion and flooding risks. Road grading across parts of the constituency has also reportedly improved access and mobility.
Solar-powered streetlights have been installed in several communities, including Lipanu, Ayedaade, Eyingun, Lota, and the Olabosipo boundary area, aimed at improving security and night-time visibility. In Oke-Igbo, the construction of lock-up shops has provided spaces for small-scale traders and contributed to local economic activity.
Beyond infrastructure, constituents have also pointed to social support initiatives, including empowerment programmes for widows and elderly residents, as well as the distribution of relief materials during periods of need, including during Ramadan.
Political observers note that the lawmaker’s legislative participation and oversight activities have contributed to governance and accountability within the constituency.
As discussions around the next electoral cycle begin, some stakeholders have argued that continuity in representation could help sustain ongoing development efforts.
A community leader in Ile-Oluji, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the constituency has experienced what he described as responsive representation and expressed support for continuity based on performance.
While political opinions remain varied, the ongoing conversation reflects growing public interest in the constituency’s future representation and development trajectory.
