FG MOVES TO PARTIALLY SETTLE N-POWER ARREARS AMID GROWING BENEFICIARY PRESSURE
The Federal Government of Nigeria is considering a partial payment of outstanding stipends owed to beneficiaries of the N-Power programme, following sustained pressure and widespread concerns over delayed allowances.
Reports indicate that authorities may approve the release of approximately three months’ worth of payments from an estimated backlog ranging between nine and twelve months. While this development has generated cautious optimism among beneficiaries, there has been no official confirmation from the government at the time of filing this report.
The issue gained renewed attention after several posts circulated on social media platforms, with beneficiaries calling for immediate intervention. One such post by a programme participant, Bashiru Usman Gobir, suggested that a three-month payment could be released imminently, further fueling expectations.
Sources within the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, however, suggest that any immediate disbursement may be limited by available funding. According to insiders familiar with the situation, financial constraints are a key factor influencing the government’s approach to settling the arrears.
The proposed partial payment is expected to serve as temporary relief for thousands of beneficiaries across the country. Nonetheless, indications point to a phased payment structure, which would see the remaining arrears cleared over time rather than through a one-time settlement.
Stakeholders and beneficiaries are now awaiting an official announcement that would clarify the payment timeline and outline the government’s plan for addressing the full backlog.
The N-Power programme, a key component of Nigeria’s social investment initiatives, has faced recurring challenges related to funding and payment delays, prompting ongoing calls for reforms and improved accountability.
