KWANKWASO RESIGNS FROM NNPP, SIGNALS POLITICAL REALIGNMENT AHEAD
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has officially announced his resignation from the party.
In a press statement dated March 29, 2026, Kwankwaso disclosed that his resignation takes immediate effect, marking a significant development in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
The former NNPP National Leader described his decision as difficult, noting the privilege he had serving the party in various capacities, including as its presidential flagbearer during the 2023 general elections.
Kwankwaso, however, stated that prevailing political realities in the country necessitated a strategic realignment. He explained that his decision was guided by the need to identify with a political platform that he believes offers a stronger opportunity to drive meaningful national change.
While he did not disclose his next political destination, the former governor emphasized his continued commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s progress.
He expressed appreciation to key stakeholders within the NNPP, including the National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the National Working Committee, and other party organs such as the Board of Trustees and the National Executive Committee.
Kwankwaso also acknowledged the contributions of party members at all levels, from ward to state structures, as well as supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, praising their dedication to the party’s vision.
Despite his resignation, he indicated a willingness to maintain collaboration with party members and supporters in pursuit of national development and a more prosperous future for Nigeria.
Kwankwaso’s exit from the NNPP is expected to have implications for political alignments ahead of future electoral cycles.
