ONDO GOVERNMENT EXTENDS OKADA REGISTRATION DEADLINE AFTER ENROLLING 14,000 RIDERS


The Ondo State Government has extended the ongoing registration exercise for commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as okada riders, following the successful documentation of over 14,000 operators across the state.

The extension, which will run for an additional one week until April 3, is aimed at ensuring full compliance and proper documentation of all commercial motorcyclists as part of broader efforts to strengthen security and regulate transportation activities.

The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the development. He explained that the extension would allow more riders who are yet to register to take advantage of the exercise.

Adeleye emphasized that the registration process remains free of charge, urging operators to disregard any unauthorized demand for payment. He noted that security agencies have been directed to enforce compliance once the registration window closes.

He also reiterated that the existing restriction on motorcycle operations between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. remains in effect across all 18 local government areas of the state. The measure, according to authorities, is part of ongoing strategies to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.

The state government commended the thousands of riders who have already complied with the directive, describing their participation as a significant contribution to improving the state’s security architecture.

Motorcycle union leaders were further urged to support the initiative by ensuring that their members complete the registration process within the extended timeframe.

Officials say the exercise is a key component of the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order while creating a safer environment for residents and commuters.
