POLICE FOIL HIGHWAY ROBBERY, RESCUE FIVE VICTIMS, ARREST THREE SUSPECTS IN ONDO


The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of five victims following an early morning armed robbery incident along Ondo Road, as three suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident occurred at about 5:20 a.m. on March 26, 2026, between Ita-Oba and Oboto axis of the road.

According to the statement, a commercial vehicle traveling from Ondo to Akure with five passengers on board was intercepted by armed robbers, who reportedly forced the victims into a nearby bush and dispossessed them of their personal belongings.

The victims were identified as Sunday Omodele, 63; Osedimilehin Peter, 29; Osedimilehin Ifeoluwa, 18; Osedimilehin Florence, 56; and Ademola Regina.

The police noted that upon receiving a distress call, operatives of the Command, in collaboration with the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), launched a swift and coordinated operation that led to the safe rescue of all victims without injuries.

“Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident,” the statement said, identifying them as Akinyemi Olamilekan, Mutaka Ali, and Atiku Abubakar.

Police authorities added that the suspects are currently in custody and have provided statements that are assisting ongoing investigations. They are expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state, particularly along highways and major transport routes. It emphasized that routine patrols, intelligence-led operations, and strategic monitoring remain in place to deter criminal activities.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station to aid security agencies in maintaining law and order.

The Command commended the оператив response of its officers and collaborating security personnel, noting that the operation reflects its continued dedication to safeguarding residents and commuters across Ondo State.
