TRAGEDY IN LOKOJA AS KOGI POLYTECHNIC LECTURER COLLAPSES, DIES DURING LECTURE

A lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Mr. Anslem Ojodomo, has died after collapsing while delivering a lecture to students, in a development that has shocked the academic community.

The incident was officially confirmed by the Rector of the institution, Prof. Salihu Avidime, in a statement issued on Friday through the Acting Coordinator of the Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. John Onimisi.

According to the statement, Mr. Ojodomo suddenly collapsed during a lecture session and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by concerned students and colleagues. However, he was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The Rector described the incident as deeply distressing, noting that he had interacted with the late lecturer earlier on the same day before the tragic occurrence.

“This unfortunate development has come as a rude shock to the entire polytechnic community,” the statement noted.

Mr. Ojodomo, who was a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration, was also serving as the Deputy Dean, Student Services. He was widely regarded by colleagues and students as a dedicated academic who played an active role in both teaching and administrative responsibilities within the institution.

His death comes barely one month after the passing of another lecturer in the polytechnic, Dr. Barnabas Akuba, who died shortly after completing his doctoral programme, further deepening concerns within the academic environment.

Born on October 5, 1992, Ojodomo held a Master’s degree from Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba. He had recently defended his PhD proposal prior to his untimely death.

He joined the services of Kogi State Polytechnic in 2021 and was said to have contributed significantly to the growth and development of the institution within a short period.

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic has extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, his colleagues, students, and the people of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
