TRAGEDY IN ONDO: 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL KILLED BY TIPPER TRUCK IN AKUNGBA-AKOKO


A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday at Supare Junction along Supare Road, involved a Mercedes-Benz tipper truck that reportedly knocked down the young victim.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the child was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital following the accident but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in an official statement issued in Akure on Monday.

He disclosed that the driver of the truck has been arrested, while the vehicle involved in the accident has been recovered for further inspection.

“The Ondo State Police Command regrets to confirm a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, which resulted in the death of a nine-year-old girl,” Jimoh stated.

He added that a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability.

The police also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice would be pursued.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and adopt safe driving practices to prevent avoidable loss of lives on the roads.
