APC ONDO PRAISES OYERINMADE’S VISIT, VOWS FAIR AND TRANSPARENT SENATORIAL PRIMARY PROCESS
The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible senatorial primary, while commending aspirant Mathew Oyerinmade for formally declaring his intention at the party secretariat in Akure.
The commendation was conveyed in a statement issued by the party’s State Chairman, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, who described Oyerinmade’s visit as a sign of respect for party structure and leadership. He noted that although such formal declarations are not compulsory, they demonstrate political maturity and dedication to party values.
Babatunde also acknowledged Oyerinmade’s political experience, describing him as a longstanding member of the progressive fold who has contributed to the development and stability of the APC in Ondo State.
Reiterating the party’s position on candidate selection, the chairman stated that the APC would adopt either consensus or direct primary, depending on the outcome of consultations among party leaders and stakeholders. He explained that consensus remains the preferred option when it is broadly accepted, but assured that a direct primary would be conducted where agreement is not reached.
He urged aspirants and party members to demonstrate patience, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the process, particularly in situations where consensus decisions may not align with individual ambitions. Drawing from personal experience, Babatunde referenced a previous political setback that eventually led to his emergence as state chairman, which he described as a positive outcome.
The APC chairman called for unity and mutual respect among aspirants as the party continues consultations ahead of the primaries.
In his remarks, Oyerinmade reaffirmed his intention to contest for the Ondo South Senatorial District seat, describing himself as a committed party member with a track record of contributions to the party’s growth.
He dismissed reports suggesting he had withdrawn from the race, stating that such claims are inaccurate. He maintained that he remains actively in contention for the party’s ticket.
Oyerinmade also expressed confidence in the party’s internal processes, stating that he is open to a consensus arrangement and willing to support the outcome, regardless of the result. However, he added that he remains optimistic about his chances in the contest.
The APC in Ondo State emphasized its commitment to an inclusive and credible process aimed at producing a strong candidate for the upcoming senatorial election.
