ILE-OLUJI THEFT CASE TAKES DARK TURN AS POLICE DISCOVER SUSPECTED HUMAN REMAINS, ARREST THREE
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect in Ile-Oluji following a theft case that led to the discovery of items suspected to be of criminal and ritual significance, including what authorities believe may be human skeletal remains.
According to a statement issued on April 23, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspect, identified as Awomehinde Tope, was apprehended on April 11, 2026, over allegations of stealing from his father, Awomehinde Kehinde.
Items reportedly stolen include three Boxer Bajaj motorcycles, nine goats, quantities of palm oil, four Android phones, two gas cylinders, gold items, and rug carpets.
Police investigations revealed that one of the stolen rugs had been sold to another individual, identified as Olawale Sunday. Acting on intelligence, officers conducted a search at the suspect’s residence, where they recovered materials described as being of investigative concern.
Recovered items include a bone believed to be human skeletal remains, which authorities say will undergo forensic examination, alongside two native sponges, fetish charms, black soap, and an expended AK-47 ammunition shell.
Further developments in the case led to the arrest of two additional suspects, John Vincent, 22, and Olakintan Oladele, 29, who were found at the residence of Olawale Sunday. Police said the individuals could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding the items recovered.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed a comprehensive investigation to determine the origin and intended use of the recovered materials, particularly the suspected human remains.
Authorities confirmed that all suspects have provided statements, and they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents in Ile-Oluji and across the state, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
The Commissioner also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, noting that continued leadership and operational guidance have strengthened policing efforts within the state.
Residents are encouraged to contact the police through official channels for inquiries or to provide useful information.
