YOUTH URGED TO SHUN ELECTORAL VIOLENCE, EMBRACE PEACEFUL PARTICIPATION AHEAD OF ELECTIONS

As preparations intensify ahead of the next election cycle, a community leader, Victor Abosede, has called on young people to reject violence and play constructive roles in the democratic process.

In a public message addressed to youths, Abosede emphasized the importance of responsible civic engagement, noting that elections should be defined by ideas, leadership, and progress rather than fear, intimidation, or conflict.

He expressed concern over the recurring trend where some young people are influenced, pressured, or financially induced to engage in disruptive activities during elections. According to him, such actions often leave lasting consequences for those involved, long after political actors have moved on.

“Young people deserve better,” he stated, urging them to channel their energy, strength, and influence into building their communities rather than contributing to unrest.

Abosede highlighted that true leadership begins with discipline, awareness, and the courage to reject wrongdoing. He warned that no political ambition is worth risking one’s safety, personal record, or future, adding that temporary gains cannot outweigh long-term consequences.

He further encouraged youths to actively participate in the electoral process in a peaceful and informed manner. This includes asking questions, staying updated on political developments, and holding leaders accountable without resorting to violence.

The message also stressed the need for unity and mutual respect, even in the face of differing opinions, as a foundation for sustainable development within communities.

Reinforcing the significance of civic responsibility, Abosede reminded young people that while their votes and voices matter, their lives and future remain paramount.

He concluded by urging youths to make informed decisions, stand firmly for peace, and prioritize actions that contribute to a safer and more prosperous society.

The message forms part of ongoing efforts by stakeholders to promote peaceful elections and discourage political violence, particularly among young people who play a critical role in shaping the nation’s democratic future.
