SUNDAY IGBOHO ANNOUNCES NEW SECURITY NETWORK ‘IRU EKUN’ IN SOUTHWEST

Yoruba nation agitator and activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced the launch of a new local security outfit identified as “Iru Ekun.”

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, where he revealed that the security network had been registered and reportedly received approval to operate.

According to the statement, the outfit is expected to focus on addressing security concerns and criminal activities, particularly within the Southwest region.

“A security network known as IRU EKUN has been registered and approved,” the statement read.

Although further operational details, including its command structure, areas of jurisdiction, and official mandate, were not immediately made public, the announcement has generated widespread reactions across social media and political circles.

Sunday Igboho became a prominent figure during campaigns against insecurity, kidnappings, and attacks linked to armed groups in parts of the Southwest. His activities attracted national attention in 2021 following a raid on his Ibadan residence by security operatives and subsequent legal issues involving authorities in the Benin Republic.

The latest announcement appears to signal a fresh phase in regional security advocacy, with indications that the proposed outfit may operate within a more structured and officially recognized framework.

However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no formal confirmation from the Presidency, the Nigeria Police Force, or other federal security agencies regarding the approval status or operational guidelines of the security network.

Observers say further clarification from relevant authorities may determine the exact role the outfit will play in Nigeria’s broader security architecture.
