PETER OBI EMERGES NDC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, PICKS RUNNING MATE FOR 2027

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially affirmed former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, as its presidential flag bearer for the 2027 general election during the party’s Special National Convention held on Saturday.

The development followed a unanimous resolution adopted by delegates and party stakeholders at the convention after a motion endorsing Obi’s candidacy was moved and approved without opposition.

Speaking during the event, party leaders described the affirmation as a reflection of the growing confidence and trust many Nigerians have placed in the NDC ahead of the next presidential election.

The party leadership also formally presented the party’s flag to Peter Obi at the convention in the presence of the National Chairman and other top officials of the party.

In a major highlight of the gathering, Peter Obi, while accepting the party’s nomination, announced former Kano State Governor and Senator, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The announcement was greeted with loud applause and excitement among delegates, supporters, and party members, many of whom described the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a symbol of national unity, inclusiveness, and political collaboration across regions.

Party stakeholders noted that the alliance could strengthen the NDC’s chances in the 2027 elections by attracting support from different parts of the country.

Leaders of the party congratulated both Obi and Kwankwaso on what was described as a historic political milestone and pledged their collective support towards achieving victory in the forthcoming presidential poll.

The convention also commended delegates and party officials for maintaining peace and order throughout the primary and convention processes, describing the exercise as democratic and transparent.

The NDC urged its members nationwide to remain united, focused, and committed to the party’s ideals as preparations intensify for the 2027 election season.

The convention concluded with renewed calls for national transformation, progress, and what party leaders described as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
