TINUBU REPORTEDLY BACKS FIELD RESULTS IN ONDO APC PRIMARIES, STRENGTHENS AIYEDATIWA’S POSITION
Fresh political developments have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) following reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the party’s national leadership to uphold the actual results recorded during the Ondo State and National Assembly primary elections.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the directive reportedly followed a private meeting between President Tinubu and Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in Lagos.
The reported intervention is being interpreted by party stakeholders as a major boost for Governor Aiyedatiwa amid internal disagreements within the Ondo APC over the outcome of the recently concluded primaries.
Reports indicated that tensions rose ahead of the House of Representatives primaries after some aspirants believed to be loyal to Governor Aiyedatiwa were reportedly disqualified through an administrative process. The development generated reactions from party supporters across parts of the state, with concerns raised over the credibility of the process.
Despite the controversies, the APC primaries were conducted across wards in the state under the party’s direct primary system, with electoral officials and observers reportedly monitoring the exercise in several locations.
Sources claimed that some of the affected aspirants still secured victories in their respective constituencies based on results collated from the field.
Governor Aiyedatiwa was also said to have presented reports from the primary elections during his meeting with President Tinubu, maintaining that the process reflected the wishes of party members at the grassroots level.
Although the APC national leadership has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter as of press time, insiders within the party alleged that President Tinubu instructed officials to recognise winners based on results submitted by local election committees.
Political observers believe the development could further consolidate Governor Aiyedatiwa’s influence within the APC structure in Ondo State ahead of future political contests.
The reported move has continued to generate discussions among party members and political stakeholders across the state, as attention now shifts to the official publication and confirmation of candidates by the party leadership.
