OGUN POLICE DEPLOY 2,500 PERSONNEL AHEAD OF 2026 OJUDE OBA FESTIVAL

The Ogun State Police Command has deployed more than 2,500 security personnel across Ijebu Ode and surrounding communities to ensure adequate security during the 2026 Ojude Oba festival scheduled for Friday.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the deployment forms part of a comprehensive security strategy for the annual cultural celebration.

According to the police, personnel for the operation were drawn from several tactical and intelligence units, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), SWAT, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Monitoring Unit, and the Force Intelligence Department.

Babaseyi said the operation is aimed at maintaining law and order, ensuring crowd control, and preventing criminal activities before, during, and after the festival.

He stated:

“In line with this proactive operational strategy, the Command has deployed over 2,500 police personnel, including conventional officers and tactical teams drawn from the Police Mobile Force (PMF), SWAT, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Monitoring Unit, Force Intelligence Department, and other specialized operational units across Ijebu Ode and adjoining communities where the festival will be celebrated within Ogun State.”

The police also confirmed the deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers, patrol vehicles, police motorcycles, surveillance teams, undercover operatives, and rapid response squads to strategic locations across the state.

Security presence has been strengthened around the Ojude Oba Pavilion, major highways, hotels, worship centres, motor parks, recreational centres, markets, and residential areas expected to witness increased human and vehicular movement during the celebration.

The command explained that special operational attention would be focused on major routes such as the Sagamu Interchange, Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway, Molipa axis, and adjoining communities to prevent traffic congestion, criminal activities, and other security threats.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical commanders to remain on maximum alert throughout the festival period.

According to the statement, officers have also been instructed to maintain professionalism and respect the rights of law-abiding residents and visitors while carrying out their duties.

The police further urged residents, tourists, and festival participants to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through the command’s emergency lines.

Parents and guardians were also advised to closely monitor their children and wards during the festivities.

Ojude Oba is one of Nigeria’s most prominent cultural festivals celebrated annually by the Ijebu people of Ogun State shortly after Eid-el-Kabir. The event attracts thousands of visitors, dignitaries, tourists, and traditional rulers from within and outside the country.
