ONDO APPROVES FEDERAL SALARY SCALE FOR HEALTH WORKERS, PLANS FRESH RECRUITMENT DRIVE

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the adoption of the federal salary scale for medical officers and other health workers in Ondo State as part of efforts to strengthen the healthcare sector and improve workers’ welfare.

The governor also revealed plans for fresh recruitment of health workers to boost manpower across the state’s health institutions.

Aiyedatiwa made this known on Wednesday during the annual get-together and send-off ceremony organised for retired permanent secretaries and tutors-general in Akure.

Speaking at the event, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to drawing from the experience and institutional knowledge of retired permanent secretaries and senior civil servants, describing them as valuable assets for governance and public service development.

According to him, retired top civil servants possess deep administrative expertise that remains relevant in strengthening government operations and policy implementation.

Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that his administration would continue to engage experienced retired officers in governance and advisory roles to enhance efficiency in public service delivery.

He noted that several members of the forum of retired heads of service and permanent secretaries had already been appointed into strategic political positions within the state.

The governor stressed that the successes recorded by various administrations in Ondo State over the years were made possible through the dedication and professionalism of civil servants.

He encouraged retirees to see retirement as another phase of service where they could continue mentoring younger officers and contributing to the growth of the public sector.

On workers’ welfare, Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s resolve to strengthen the civil service and improve productivity through supportive policies.

In his remarks, the Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, praised the governor for prioritising workers’ welfare and ensuring prompt payment of retirees’ entitlements.

Philip disclosed that the state government had approved immediate payment of terminal benefits for retired permanent secretaries to make access to their entitlements easier.

He further revealed that about 5,000 appointments had already been approved to strengthen the civil service workforce across the state.

The Head of Service also disclosed that the government approved accommodation support for about 150 retired graduate headmasters affected by a policy delay dating back to 2009.

According to him, the intervention was necessary as many affected retirees had died before receiving the benefits.

Speaking on the health sector, Philip confirmed that Ondo State had adopted the federal salary review for medical officers and health workers, making the state one of the early adopters of the new wage structure.

He added that additional health workers would soon be recruited to improve healthcare service delivery in the state.

Philip urged retired permanent secretaries to continue upholding professionalism and contribute meaningfully to the development of the public service.

Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of the Forum of Ondo State Permanent Secretaries, Segun Odusanya, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for reforms targeted at strengthening institutional capacity within the civil service.

He described the forum as a platform established to promote welfare, professional continuity and administrative discipline among serving and retired permanent secretaries.

Odusanya noted that the forum had continued to support efficiency in the public service through orientation programmes and reinforcement of administrative culture.

He also applauded the governor for appointing 34 permanent secretaries and providing official vehicles for 22 previously appointed officers.

According to him, the gesture had further improved institutional effectiveness within the civil service.

He added that gratuity payments had been extended up to 2019 for state retirees and 2014 for local government pensioners.

Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Engr. Olaleye Akinola; Special Adviser to the Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, Kikelomo Ikuomola; APC State Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole; retired permanent secretaries and other civil servants.
