ONDO POLICE ARREST FIVE SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER RANSOM MONEY IN ORE
The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of five suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate allegedly operating within Ore and surrounding communities, following an intelligence-led operation by the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the operation followed a kidnapping report received on May 12, 2026, from a resident identified as Andrew Yohana of the Jerry Sawmill Area in Ore.
The complainant reportedly informed the police that his two sons, Jehu, aged 10, and Yohana, aged 5, were abducted by unknown persons while on their way to school and taken to an undisclosed location.
The Command said detectives immediately launched an investigation, combining technical intelligence, tracking analysis, and coordinated field operations to uncover the identities and locations of the suspects.
Police operatives subsequently arrested two suspects identified as Taofeek Lukman, 23, and Blessing Saturday, 27, around the Alaba Area of Ore.
During the operation, officers recovered the sum of ₦251,000, which the police said is suspected to be part of the ransom allegedly collected from the victims’ family before the children were released.
Further investigation reportedly led detectives to another hideout linked to one of the suspects, where an unregistered lady motorcycle believed to have been used during the operation was also recovered.
The police added that ongoing investigations led to the identification of three additional suspects said to be connected to the syndicate. They were named as Peter Moses, 25; Sunday Isaac, 23; and Sanusi Dan Asabe, 37.
According to the statement, efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the group and recover additional exhibits linked to the case.
The Command disclosed that the arrested suspects have allegedly made confessional statements detailing their individual roles in the kidnapping and would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their professionalism and intelligence-driven approach.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
The Commissioner also praised the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for what he described as continued support, strategic leadership, and investment in intelligence-led policing nationwide.
He assured residents that the Command would remain proactive in protecting lives and property while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
The police further warned criminal elements in the state to desist from unlawful activities or face legal consequences.
