APC SUPPORTERS STAGE MASSIVE HIGHWAY PROTEST IN ORE OVER CONTROVERSIAL ONDO REPS PRIMARY DECISION
Hundreds of members and youth supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, expressing dissatisfaction over the outcome of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) Appeal Committee decision concerning the recently conducted House of Representatives primary election for the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.
The protesters, drawn from several communities across the federal constituency, converged in large numbers along the busy Benin-Lagos Expressway in Ore, temporarily drawing public attention as they voiced concerns over the party’s decision which declared Hon. Festus Adefiranye as the winner of the APC primary election.
Carrying placards with various messages directed at the leadership of the ruling party, the demonstrators called on the APC national leadership to urgently review the decision of the appeal committee, insisting that the final declaration did not accurately reflect what they described as the true outcome of the primary election conducted within the constituency.
According to several protesters present at the demonstration, the action was organized to show support for Hon. Mathew Oye Oyerinmade, popularly known as MATO, whom they believe emerged as the rightful winner of the APC primary exercise based on the result recognized by party members at the grassroots level.
The protesters stated that the process which eventually produced Hon. Festus Adefiranye as the party’s candidate has continued to generate concern among loyal party supporters, particularly younger members who argued that the outcome has raised questions about internal party processes and fairness.
During the protest, participants repeatedly urged the APC National Working Committee to carefully review the circumstances surrounding the appeal committee’s decision and ensure that all concerns raised by party members are properly addressed in the interest of fairness and internal democracy within the party.
They further appealed to the national leadership of the APC to uphold what they described as the genuine mandate expressed during the primary election and reconsider the final decision affecting the candidacy for the federal constituency, stressing that such action would help strengthen confidence among party members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The demonstration remained peaceful throughout the exercise, although the large gathering of party supporters on strategic sections of the Benin-Lagos Expressway attracted significant attention from commuters, business owners, and residents within Ore and surrounding communities.
