HUNDREDS OF WOMEN STORM ONDO APC SECRETARIAT, PROTEST ALLEGED MANIPULATION OF PRIMARY ELECTION RESULTS
Hundreds of women on Monday stormed the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Akure, Ondo State, protesting against the outcome of the party’s recently concluded primary elections and rejecting the results released by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The protesters, who arrived in large numbers at the party secretariat, were led by the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Osamaye, as they voiced strong dissatisfaction over what they described as irregularities and inconsistencies in the results announced by the party leadership.
Carrying placards with bold inscriptions such as “We No Go Gree,” “Ondo State Is On Fire,” and “Announce the Real Results,” the women demanded transparency and fairness, insisting that the results made public by the APC leadership did not accurately reflect the actual outcome of the primary election exercise conducted across the state.
Speaking during the protest, Hon. Mrs. Osamaye stated that the demonstration was organized to send a clear message to the APC National Working Committee, urging the party leadership to review the released results and announce what she described as the genuine outcomes recorded at the various primary election venues.
She maintained that several candidates declared by the party leadership were allegedly not the actual winners that emerged during the primary process, raising concerns over what the protesters believe to be discrepancies in the final list released by the party.
The protesters later marched through the busy Olusegun Obasanjo Road in Akure, temporarily disrupting vehicular movement as motorists and commuters experienced delays while security operatives monitored the peaceful demonstration to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The latest protest adds a fresh layer of controversy to the ongoing dispute surrounding the APC primary elections in Ondo State, as pressure continues to mount from aggrieved party members and supporters calling on the party leadership to review the election results and address concerns raised over the conduct and outcome of the exercise.
