POLITICAL EARTHQUAKE IN ONDO: APC REPLACES MAJOR CANDIDATES FOLLOWING PRIMARY ELECTION REVIEW

The political landscape in Ondo State has witnessed a major shift after the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly made sweeping changes to its list of candidates ahead of the upcoming election cycle, following an internal review of its recently concluded primary elections.

Fresh documents currently circulating online and dated June 29, 2026, indicate that the ruling party submitted a revised list of approved candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after reviewing petitions and appeals filed by aspirants dissatisfied with the outcome of the party primaries conducted across the state.

According to the documents, the decision followed recommendations made by the APC Primary Election Appeal Committees, which were subsequently reviewed and approved by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), resulting in significant changes affecting both senatorial and House of Representatives candidates in Ondo State.

One of the biggest changes was recorded in the Ondo Central Senatorial District, where Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, who had earlier emerged as the party’s candidate during the primary election, was reportedly replaced by Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN) after the review process.

A similar development also emerged in Ondo North Senatorial District, where Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye was reportedly replaced by Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, a move already generating widespread discussion among political stakeholders and party supporters within the state.

The adjustments extended beyond the senatorial contests, with several House of Representatives tickets also affected by the review exercise.

In Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency, Mr Akingboye Leke was reportedly replaced by Hon. Donald K. Ojogo, while in Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Rasaq Obe lost the party ticket to Hon. Festus Olarewaju.

For Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, the revised documents showed that Hon. Kayode Ijalana was replaced by Hon. Dr Oluwatimehin Adelegbe.

In another notable change, Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency saw Hon. Olumuyiwa Daramola replaced by Hon. Okunjimi John Odimayo.

The review also affected Ondo West/Ondo East Federal Constituency, where Dr Abiola Makinde was reportedly replaced by Hon. Dr Michael Ajilo.

Similarly, in Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency, Oyerinmade Matthew was reportedly replaced by Hon. Festus Ayodele Adefiranye as the party adjusted its candidate lineup.

Political observers believe the latest developments could trigger fresh reactions within APC ranks in Ondo State, particularly among aspirants affected by the changes and supporters monitoring preparations ahead of the next election cycle.

With several high-profile names now replaced after the party’s internal review process, analysts say the development may significantly reshape political alliances within the APC and influence the dynamics of the coming elections in Ondo State.
