2027: FORMER APC SENATORIAL ASPIRANT, HON. ADEJORO ADEOGUN, URGES PARTY MEMBERS TO ACCEPT TINUBU'S DECISION, MOVE ON FROM ONDO PRIMARY CONTROVERSY

FORMER APC SENATORIAL ASPIRANT, HON. ADEJORO ADEOGUN, URGES PARTY MEMBERS TO ACCEPT TINUBU'S DECISION, MOVE ON FROM ONDO PRIMARY CONTROVERSY

Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Ondo North Senatorial aspirant, Hon. Adejoro Adeogun, has called on members of the party in Ondo State to put the controversies surrounding the 2026 National Assembly primaries behind them and embrace reconciliation in the interest of the party's future.

In a lengthy statement titled "Que Sera Sera," Adeogun reflected on his political journey and the realities of internal party politics, urging fellow aspirants and their supporters to accept the outcome of the APC nomination process and avoid actions capable of deepening divisions within the party.

Recalling an encounter with former Edo State lawmaker, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, popularly known as Igodomigodo, in 2018, Adeogun said he was advised to understand that political contests often involve complex realities beyond competence and popularity. According to him, the experience taught him not to expect perfection in party affairs but to remain focused regardless of the outcome.

He noted that while he successfully navigated the party's internal process in 2019, circumstances did not favour him in 2023, describing politics as a journey where victory and defeat are both inevitable.

Speaking on his participation in the APC Ondo North Senatorial primary conducted on May 18, 2026, Adeogun said he prepared extensively for the contest after consulting party leaders across the senatorial district, Ondo State and Abuja.

According to him, he was convinced that his experience, performance and acceptability placed him in a strong position but acknowledged that party primaries are influenced by several factors beyond individual credentials.

He disclosed that he invested significant time and resources into the race, intensifying consultations both within the senatorial district and at the national level. Although the final outcome did not favour him, he expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives of his supporters throughout the campaign.

Adeogun stated that while he accepted the result without bitterness, he was concerned by the reactions of some aspirants and their supporters, urging them not to become consumed by emotions over political contests.

Commenting on the conduct of the APC primaries in Ondo State, the former aspirant alleged that the exercise did not reflect a transparent direct primary process. He claimed that the exercise was characterised by irregularities and argued that the process fell short of genuine internal democracy.

He maintained that political actors who participated in the process were already familiar with how party primaries are often conducted and should therefore avoid portraying the exercise as flawless.

Despite his criticisms, Adeogun sympathised with aspirants who, in his view, may have been disadvantaged by the process, noting that they became victims of a political system that requires reforms to strengthen internal democracy.

He also urged party stakeholders to engage in self-reflection, arguing that many leaders remained silent when internal challenges emerged because they believed the prevailing system favoured them.

According to him, the inability of party leaders and aspirants to challenge perceived shortcomings at the appropriate time contributed to the present situation.

On the intervention of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and the subsequent resolution of disputes arising from the primaries, Adeogun said members should respect the final position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the national leader of the party.

He stressed that continuing protests and public disagreements would only weaken the APC ahead of future elections, adding that the party must now focus on reconciliation and rebuilding trust among its members.

"The President has spoken and the decision has been made. Rather than dissipating energy attempting to stop a moving train, we should channel our efforts toward rebuilding the party," he stated.

Adeogun concluded by urging party faithful to learn from the lessons of the 2026 primaries and work collectively toward a stronger and more united APC.

Ending his message with the phrase "Que Sera Sera," he noted that while political outcomes may not always favour everyone, unity and commitment to the party should remain paramount.
