'LET THE ELEPHANTS STOP FIGHTING' — OLUBAKINDE URGES ONDO APC LEADERS TO EMBRACE RECONCILIATION
Political stakeholder and public affairs commentator, Hon. Olumide Olubakinde, has called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State to embrace reconciliation and put aside their differences following the controversies that trailed the party's recent primary elections.
In a statement titled "Stop the Elephants Fight", Olubakinde described the political tension within the party as a development that could have adverse consequences for its members if not urgently addressed.
He noted that conflicts among influential political figures often leave ordinary party members bearing the greatest burden, citing the popular African proverb, "When two elephants fight, the grass suffers," to illustrate his concern.
According to him, the situation in Ondo State calls for restraint, dialogue, and unity rather than prolonged disagreements. While refraining from blaming any individual or group, he urged all factions within the APC to sheathe their swords and work towards restoring harmony within the party.
Olubakinde further stated that building a stronger political future requires deliberate efforts today, adding that reconciliation remains essential to preserving the party's unity ahead of future elections.
Describing himself as a "watchman" over the state's political affairs, he appealed to party leaders to extend the olive branch to one another and allow peace and decorum to prevail.
He warned that unresolved internal disputes could pose challenges to the party's electoral fortunes if left unattended, stressing that unity would be crucial in supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.
Olubakinde concluded by urging stakeholders to heed the call for reconciliation in the collective interest of the APC and Ondo State.
