PRESIDENT TINUBU ORDERS ICPC TO PROBE FAKE 'PRESIDENTIAL FOREIGN INTERVENTION PROMOTION COUNCIL

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing the body as fictitious and unauthorized by the Federal Government.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the investigation is expected to be concluded within 30 days, with a detailed report submitted directly to the President.

The Presidency stated that the PFIPC was never established by the Federal Government and has no legal backing through any law, presidential directive, executive approval, or other lawful government instrument.

The statement identified Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew as an individual who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the non-existent council while falsely claiming to be a presidential appointee.

President Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate allegations involving forged appointment letters and other official government documents, the use of false presidential claims to obtain official recognition and diplomatic support, including visa facilitation, as well as the opening of multiple bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies using allegedly forged documents.

The investigation will also examine the broader circumstances that may have enabled the fictitious organisation and the alleged false presidential appointment to gain an appearance of legitimacy.

According to the directive, the anti-corruption agency is expected to trace the origin and use of the forged documents, review how official recognition or diplomatic support may have been sought or obtained, investigate the operation of any related bank accounts, track the movement of funds linked to the alleged scheme, and determine the involvement of any public officials, private individuals, financial institutions, intermediaries, or other entities that may have facilitated the activities.

President Tinubu further instructed the ICPC to identify weaknesses within government procedures that may have been exploited and recommend immediate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government have also been directed to cooperate fully with the ICPC by providing all relevant information, records, and assistance required for the investigation upon lawful request.

The President stressed that the integrity of the Presidency and government institutions must be protected against impersonation, forgery, abuse of official identity, and any attempt to exploit public institutions through fraudulent means.

He also directed that anyone found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation should face the full weight of the law.
