ONDO POLICE DEPLOY MASSIVE SECURITY, ISSUE TOUGH WARNING AGAINST JULY 7 CULT ACTIVITIES

The Ondo State Police Command has intensified security measures across the state and warned cult groups and other criminal elements against engaging in any unlawful gathering, procession, initiation or celebration linked to the annual "7/7" cult activities.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, the Command disclosed that intelligence reports indicate that some cult groups may be planning activities capable of disrupting public peace and endangering lives.

To prevent any security breach, the Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate deployment of personnel and operational assets to identified flashpoints and other strategic locations across Ondo State.

The operation involves officers from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), State Intelligence Department, Mobile Police Force, as well as personnel from various Area Commands and Police Divisions. According to the Command, the officers have been tasked with conducting intensive visibility policing, surveillance operations, confidence-building patrols and intelligence-led raids.

The Police Command stated that it will not tolerate any unlawful assembly, public display of cult insignia, brandishing of weapons, violent processions or any activity capable of creating fear or panic among residents. It warned that anyone found violating the law would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with existing legal provisions.

Parents and guardians were urged to caution their children and wards against participating in cult-related activities. Owners and managers of hotels, lounges, bars, event centres and recreational facilities were also advised not to allow their premises to be used for any gathering associated with cult groups, warning that anyone found aiding or harbouring criminal elements could face prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, transport unions, educational institutions and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or gatherings to the nearest police station or other security agencies.

The Command reassured residents that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to safeguard lives and property, urging citizens to continue their lawful activities without fear while security personnel remain on high alert to respond swiftly to any threat to public safety.

Residents with useful information are encouraged to contact the Ondo State Police Command through its official communication channels.
