AGBOOLA AJAYI SET TO JOIN APC, TO SHAKE UP ONDO POLITICS

Ondo State –

Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi, is set to officially defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Monday, 26th January 2026, in a move that promises to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Opima RealNews correspondent received this information and the development has also been confirmed by Ajayi’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Samuel Ogunmusi.

Ajayi, a seasoned politician with a career spanning the House of Representatives, Deputy Governorship, and multiple governorship bids, has contested elections under various platforms, including PDP and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Political analysts say his defection could significantly influence party dynamics in Ondo State, given his strong grassroots following and political clout.

The official defection will take place at Ajayi’s country home in Igbekebo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area where key APC figures are expected to receive him including APC State Chairman Hon. Adetimehin, all APC structures in Ese-Odo, and Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Legislative and Party Affairs among others.

While Ajayi has not publicly stated his reasons for leaving the PDP, insiders suggest the move signals his intention to align with a platform that offers broader political opportunities and a renewed path to leadership in Ondo State.

APC sources have welcomed Ajayi’s impending defection, describing it as a strategic boost that will strengthen the party ahead of the forthcoming election cycle.

The formal event marking his entry into the APC is expected to draw strong support from party leaders and grassroots supporters alike.
