ATIJERE PALACE DENIES OIL DEAL ALLEGATIONS, DEFENDS MOLOKUN OVER EBA ISLAND CLAIMS

The Royal Palace of Atijere has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Adeoye, the Molokun of Atijere, sought permission from an alleged non-land-owning outsider to conduct oil drilling and gas exploration activities on Eba Island.

In an official statement issued by the palace on Friday, the allegations were described as false, malicious and deliberately fabricated, aimed at blackmailing the monarch and damaging his long-standing reputation.

The palace specifically dismissed claims that Oba Adeoye sought approval from Oba Kazeem Adeshina Salami, stressing that the Molokun of Atijere has no interest, involvement or stake in any oil-related business or venture.

According to the statement, the claims are part of a calculated attempt to create confusion and push a false narrative regarding ownership and control of Eba Island, which the palace maintained belongs to Atijere/Ilaje land in Ondo State from time immemorial.

Providing historical clarification, the palace recalled that in 2013, the Baale of Ago Alaja officially reported the discovery of an oil well to Oba Samuel Adeoye, who subsequently reported the matter to the Ondo State Government during the administration of former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, in line with due process.

The palace further emphasized that oil exploration and drilling activities fall strictly within the jurisdiction of the Federal Government and relevant regulatory agencies, not traditional rulers or institutions, urging the public to be wary of misinformation.

Describing Oba Adeoye as a respected and refined traditional ruler, the palace noted that his reign has been marked by efforts to promote peace, unity and development across Atijere and its environs.

The statement warned that the palace would not hesitate to pursue legal action against individuals or groups responsible for spreading falsehoods and defamatory content capable of undermining peace and traditional authority.

The Royal Palace also called on the public to disregard the allegations and continue to support initiatives aimed at maintaining harmony and sustainable development in Atijere, Ilaje land and Ondo State at large.
