GUNMEN ABDUCT PREGNANT WOMAN AS ARMED RAID ROCKS AYẸDẸ COMMUNITY IN AKURE


Tension gripped Ayẹdẹ Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday following a violent raid by suspected gunmen, during which a pregnant woman was kidnapped.

According to eyewitness accounts, the armed men stormed the community in the early hours, firing sporadically to scare residents before forcefully abducting the victim and fleeing into a nearby bush. The attack reportedly caused panic, with many residents scampering for safety.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. A source within the command disclosed that security operatives have launched a coordinated search and rescue operation aimed at locating the abductors and ensuring the safe release of the pregnant woman.

“The command is aware of the incident, and tactical teams have been deployed to track the suspects. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim unharmed,” the police source said.

This latest abduction comes just days after a similar kidnapping incident was reported in Ilu Abo area of Akure, raising fresh concerns among residents over the growing wave of insecurity within the state capital and its environs.

Community leaders in Ayẹdẹ have called on the state government and security agencies to intensify patrols and deploy more personnel to vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks.

Residents have also appealed for calm while urging authorities to act swiftly, noting that the repeated incidents of kidnapping are instilling fear and disrupting daily life.

As of the time of filing this report, no contact had been established with the kidnappers, and the police assured the public that further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
