KWANKWASO’S SON RESIGNS AS KANO COMMISSIONER FOR YOUTH AND SPORTS

Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of former Kano Governor and NNPP national leader Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned as the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and member of the Kano State Executive Council under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In a statement released today, Mustapha said his decision was made “with a heavy heart,” expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Kano State.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me,” he stated.

While Mustapha did not explicitly cite political reasons in his statement, sources close to the family indicate that his resignation is linked to the unfolding political realignments in Kano State. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has been reportedly engaging with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections, and insiders suggest Mustapha Kwankwaso may have chosen to step down rather than follow the Governor to the APC fold, preferring to maintain loyalty to his father’s political vision within the NNPP.

He also urged continued support for the state’s youth and sports programs, expressing hope that initiatives under his ministry would thrive in the future. “May Allah (SWT) continue to shower His blessings on our beloved Kano State. I wish the government and people of Kano State all the best,” Mustapha added.

The resignation marks a significant development in Kano politics, given Mustapha Kwankwaso’s prominence as a member of one of the state’s most influential political families, and it could have implications for political alignments in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
