The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a burglary and stealing incident at First Vigeo Supermarket, Oke-Ijebu, Akure, following a comprehensive, intelligence-led and technology-driven investigation.

The incident was reported on January 16, 2026, by the supermarket owner, Mrs. Vivian, who told the Police that she arrived at her business premises around 7:40 a.m. to discover that the entrance door had been forcefully tampered with.

Upon gaining access to the supermarket, Mrs. Vivian observed that several valuable items were missing. Items allegedly stolen include two laptops valued at about ₦580,000, perfumes worth ₦17,000, a cash sum of ₦2,959,400, and wristwatches with values yet to be ascertained.

She further informed the Police that the supermarket’s CCTV system had been deliberately disconnected during the burglary. However, through forensic examination and advanced technological analysis, investigators were able to recover and enhance footage showing an unidentified individual jumping into the building.

A detailed review of the footage revealed a strong resemblance to a male suspect identified as Bello, who operates a workshop adjacent to the supermarket. Acting on credible intelligence, digital evidence, and preliminary investigative findings, operatives of the Ondo State Police Command arrested the suspect.

Police sources confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and has made useful statements. Investigation is ongoing as the Command intensifies efforts to recover the stolen items and ensure diligent prosecution in line with the law.

Commending the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, praised the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his purposeful leadership and sustained emphasis on intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, which continues to strengthen crime detection and public safety nationwide.
