POPULAR NIGERIA POLY RECTOR SUSPENDED

Government orders Probe of Student Protest

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has suspended the Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic following a recent student protest that disrupted academic activities on campus. The suspension is with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the unrest.

Governor AbdulRazaq, who described the situation as “unacceptable,” directed the Ministry of Education to carry out a comprehensive probe into the incident. The aim is to determine the underlying causes of the protest and to ensure that such disruptions do not recur.

The student protest, which began earlier this week, reportedly involved demands for improved campus facilities and administrative transparency. While no major injuries were reported, the protest caused significant disruption to academic schedules, prompting the governor’s swift intervention.

In his directive, the governor emphasized that students’ voices are important but must be expressed in ways that do not disrupt learning. The suspended rector is expected to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation, and the government assured that appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings.

The State Ministry of Education has also been tasked with submitting a report on the matter within the next 14 days, after which the administration will decide on the way forward regarding the leadership of the polytechnic.
