TROOPS OVERRUN BANDIT HIDEOUTS, RESCUE HOSTAGES IN KWARA STATE
Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Igbo Danu have successfully overrun several bandit enclaves in Kwara State, neutralising suspected terrorists and rescuing multiple victims abducted during previous attacks.
The operation, which forms part of ongoing military efforts to restore security across the North-Central region, was carried out following actionable intelligence on the movement and hideouts of armed criminal elements operating within remote forested areas of the state.
According to military sources, the troops launched a sustained and coordinated offensive against the bandits’ camps, leading to the destruction of key enclaves used for logistics, coordination of attacks, and detention of kidnapped victims. During the clearance operations, several kidnapped persons were rescued alive and have since been reunited with security operatives for immediate medical evaluation and debriefing.
The Army confirmed that the rescued victims are currently in safe custody and are receiving necessary medical and psychological support, while arrangements are being made for their reunification with families.
Security sources disclosed that the operation also resulted in the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other items suspected to have been used by the criminals to carry out attacks and enforce kidnappings along major routes and rural communities in Kwara and neighbouring states.
Operation Igbo Danu was launched to counter the growing threat of banditry, kidnapping, and violent criminal activities across parts of Kwara State, particularly in border areas linking the state to Niger and Oyo States.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the momentum of the operation until all criminal elements are flushed out, assuring residents of continued protection of lives and property. Members of the public were also urged to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-banditry efforts.
