EFCC WITNESS LINKS FORMER PRESIDENT OBASANJO TO ₦11 BILLION MAMBILLA POWER PROJECT PADDING


Abuja, Nigeria — A witness appearing before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has implicated former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a secret ₦11 billion financial padding related to the Mambilla Power Project.

The testimony, presented during ongoing EFCC investigations, alleges that funds intended for the completion of the power project were diverted through undisclosed channels, raising concerns about accountability in one of Nigeria’s largest power infrastructure initiatives.

While the EFCC has not officially confirmed the details of the witness statement, court documents indicate that investigators are examining the flow of funds and the role of public officials in authorizing the transactions.

The Mambilla Power Project, which has been under development for over a decade, has frequently been at the center of scrutiny due to cost escalations, delays, and alleged mismanagement.

No formal response has yet come from former President Obasanjo or his representatives regarding the EFCC testimony. Legal experts say that linking a former head of state to alleged financial misconduct could have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s anti-graft efforts, although due process remains key.

The EFCC is expected to continue hearings and produce more evidence as the investigation into the Mambilla Power Project financial transactions progresses.
