FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVES ₦1 TRILLION METROPOLITAN RAIL PROJECT FOR KANO
The Federal Government has approved the construction of a ₦1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service in Kano State, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming urban transportation, easing traffic congestion, and boosting economic activities across the state’s metropolitan area.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed the approval while addressing members of the Kano State contingent who participated in the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Borno State.
According to the governor, the rail project is designed to provide a modern, efficient, and affordable mass transit system that will connect major districts within the Kano metropolis. He said the initiative is expected to significantly improve mobility for residents, facilitate commerce, attract investments, and enhance overall living standards.
Governor Yusuf explained that his administration’s decision to realign politically with the Federal Government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a strategic move aimed at securing critical development projects for Kano State.
Describing the rail project as a landmark intervention, the governor said it would reposition Kano as a major transportation and commercial hub in Northern Nigeria.
He assured residents that the state government would work closely with relevant federal agencies to ensure transparent implementation and maximum benefits for the people of Kano.
Governor Yusuf also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for approving the project and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting federal initiatives through complementary policies and infrastructure development.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano.
