_Top Boko Haram Coordinator Arrested_
Nigerian security forces have arrested Shariff Umar, also known as "Yusuf," a key coordinator of Boko Haram's suicide bombing network, in a significant operation in Maiduguri, Borno State. The arrest, made on December 31, 2025, is considered a major blow to the terror group's operational capacity in the Northeast.
Umar is alleged to have coordinated the Gamboru Market Mosque bombing on December 24, 2025, which claimed several innocent lives. He was responsible for recruiting, preparing, and dispatching suicide bombers, as well as coordinating logistics and supplying Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components.
The operation, led by Operation Hadin Kai, involved a cordon-and-search effort in Maiduguri's Kalmari area, resulting in the initial arrest of 14 suspects. Further investigations revealed Umar's involvement, and he was subsequently taken into custody.
This development has renewed hope for peace and security in conflict-affected communities. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to sustained intelligence operations to ensure lasting stability.
