IPOB DECLARES FEBRUARY 2 SIT-AT-HOME ACROSS SOUTH-EAST, CRITICISES SOLUDO OVER ONITSHA TRADERS
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a sit-at-home order scheduled for February 2 across the South-East, citing solidarity with traders in Onitsha, Anambra State.
In a statement issued by the group, IPOB said the directive was in response to what it described as the alleged treatment of traders by the Anambra State Government, accusing Governor Chukwuma Soludo of actions that negatively affected commercial activities in the area.
According to the group, the sit-at-home is intended to protest policies and enforcement measures it claims have resulted in hardship for traders, particularly in major markets in Onitsha. IPOB urged residents of the South-East to comply with the directive as a show of unity and support for the affected traders.
The separatist group also faulted Governor Soludo’s administration, alleging insensitivity to the plight of small-scale business owners and warning against what it described as excessive enforcement actions.
As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Government has not issued an official response to the sit-at-home announcement. Security agencies, however, have consistently advised residents to go about their lawful activities and warned against any attempt to disrupt public order.
Sit-at-home directives in the South-East have, in the past, generated mixed reactions, with concerns raised over their impact on economic activities and public safety.
