FG’S CCTV EYE NABS THREE VANDALS IN REAL-TIME ON THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE
The Federal Government’s newly deployed Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) monitoring system has led to the arrest of three suspected vandals caught in the act on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this while addressing journalists during the parade of the suspects, who were apprehended through real-time surveillance footage captured by the CCTV monitoring team.
According to reports, the suspects were caught prying open 156 cat-eye reflective road lights installed on the bridge to enhance road safety and aesthetics. The vandals were intercepted immediately after their activities were detected by the monitoring system.
The suspects, who claimed to be scavengers popularly referred to as “Bola,” reportedly failed to give coherent explanations when questioned about their actions.
While commending the Nigeria Police Force for its swift response and professionalism, Umahi expressed concern over what he described as the indifferent attitude of some Nigerians towards public infrastructure. He urged citizens to take collective ownership of government assets and ensure their protection.
The Minister also condemned what he termed the alarming level of indiscipline exhibited by road users on a temporarily opened section of the coastal highway, noting that such recklessness recently resulted in the death of a construction worker on the corridor.
Umahi subsequently directed the State Controller of Works to ensure that the arrested vandals are prosecuted in accordance with the law. He further warned potential offenders that the CCTV surveillance system on the Third Mainland Bridge remains fully active and capable of detecting and preventing criminal activities.
