JAMB ISSUES FRESH DIRECTIVE TO STUDENTS SEEKING TO RETAKE UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a fresh directive, stating that candidates who are already admitted into tertiary institutions must formally withdraw from their current programmes before registering to retake the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB made it clear that candidates cannot simultaneously retain an admission status in any higher institution while seeking a new admission through the UTME process, warning that such actions could lead to disqualification.

According to the examination body, the directive is aimed at maintaining the integrity of the admission process and ensuring that its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) accurately reflects candidates’ academic status.

The board explained that candidates who wish to change institutions or courses are required to officially withdraw from their current schools through the appropriate channels before initiating a fresh UTME registration.

JAMB also cautioned that failure to comply with the directive may result in complications during admission processing, including the inability to secure a new admission offer.

Prospective candidates were therefore advised to regularise their academic records and adhere strictly to JAMB guidelines to avoid sanctions or delays in future admission considerations.

More clarification is expected from the board as the UTME registration and admission processes continue.
