OWA OBOKUN OF IJESALAND ENDORSES IJESA BIBLE TRANSLATION, OFFERS FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland has formally endorsed the translation of the Holy Bible into the Ijesa dialect, describing the initiative as a significant step toward preserving cultural identity while deepening Christian faith among the Ijesa people.

The monarch also provided initial financial support to kick-start the translation work, underscoring his commitment to promoting indigenous language development and spiritual growth within Ijesaland.

The Bible translation initiative was proposed by Evangelist Ojo Ebenezer and Pastor Emmanuel Asaolu Olanrewaju, coordinators of the Ijesa Bible Translation Project, who presented the vision and objectives of the project to the royal father.

According to the proponents, the project aims to make the Scriptures more accessible and meaningful to native speakers of the Ijesa dialect, especially in rural communities, while also safeguarding the dialect for future generations.

The endorsement by the Owa Obokun has been widely welcomed by Christian leaders and cultural stakeholders, who view the monarch’s support as a major boost to the successful realization of the Ijesa Bible Translation Project.
