Tension has reportedly heightened within the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following fresh developments surrounding an alleged coup plot aimed at destabilising the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sources familiar with the situation disclosed that top security agencies have intensified surveillance and strategic meetings in response to intelligence reports suggesting moves by certain elements to undermine the current democratic government. The development has triggered heightened security consciousness around Aso Rock and other strategic national assets.

However, the Federal Government has played down claims of an imminent coup, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy remains stable and firmly under the control of constitutionally recognised authorities. A senior security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the reports are being treated as precautionary intelligence rather than an active threat. The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Defence Headquarters are said to be working closely to evaluate the credibility of the information, amid ongoing regional security challenges and political tensions across parts of the country.

Political analysts note that coup rumours often resurface during periods of economic pressure, political realignments, and heightened public discourse. They caution against the spread of unverified information capable of creating unnecessary fear or instability.

Meanwhile, the Presidency has reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to democratic governance, rule of law, and national unity, assuring Nigerians that the government remains firmly in control of the security situation.
