ALAGBAKA ESCAPES MAJOR DISASTER AS ADEBAWO LEADS SWIFT RESPONSE
A residential building was gutted by fire in the early hours of Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Olaniyi Osuporu Street, Alagbaka, Akure, the Ondo State capital, triggering a rapid emergency response by the Ondo State Government.
The emergency operation was led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo, who immediately mobilised personnel of the Ondo State Fire Service and other first responders to the scene following a distress alert.
Hon. Adebawo arrived at the location alongside fire service officers and coordinated efforts to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings within the densely populated area. The prompt intervention of the emergency responders ensured that the fire was brought under control in good time, thereby averting further damage.
Addressing journalists at the scene, Hon. Adebawo reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to prompt and effective emergency response aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
“Our priority is to ensure that emergency situations are responded to swiftly and professionally. The timely deployment of fire service personnel played a critical role in containing the fire and minimising losses,” he stated.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was likely caused by an electrical surge, which resulted in the overheating and melting of electrical cables before igniting combustible materials within the building.
He assured affected residents of the state government’s continued support while urging members of the public to observe basic electrical and fire safety precautions, particularly during periods of unstable power supply. He also encouraged residents to promptly report emergencies to relevant authorities to enable quick intervention.
