“ONDO IS GREATER THAN PERSONAL AMBITION” — AGBOOLA AJAYI AS HE RETURNS TO APC

Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that his decision was driven by the need to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ondo State and improve the welfare of the masses.

Ajayi made the declaration during his official defection ceremony held at his hometown on Tuesday, where he addressed party members, political leaders, and supporters who gathered to witness the event.

According to him, the decision to return to the APC was not borne out of personal ambition but a commitment to add value to governance and strengthen the political system in the state.

“We have come together for the development of Ondo State, for the benefit of the masses, and to add value to the system,” Ajayi stated.

He expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Government through Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative and Party Affairs, for his role and representation at the event.

Ajayi also acknowledged the presence and support of key APC stakeholders, including the Ondo State APC Chairman, Hon. Ade Adetimehin, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Ese-Odo and Odigbo I, as well as Dr. Kuforiji, his former Chief of Staff during his tenure as Deputy Governor. Former commissioners, party leaders, and other dignitaries were also present.

Reflecting on his political journey, Ajayi said he had been greatly favoured by God, having served at various levels of government, including as party chairman, supervising councillor, councillor, local government chairman, member of the House of Representatives, and Deputy Governor of Ondo State.

He explained that his return to the APC was motivated by a desire to leverage his experience to further strengthen the party and contribute to effective governance.

Ajayi also commended the ongoing economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as necessary steps aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy for sustainable growth.

In his remarks, he described Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as a friend, drawing an analogy from East African politics. He recalled how a late Prime Minister of Kenya once campaigned fiercely against a sitting president, yet later came together to work in unity for the greater good of the country.

According to Ajayi, the lesson from that political history underscores the importance of unity over personal ambition, which informed his decision to return to the APC.

He further announced that a major defection rally involving his supporters and political associates has been scheduled to hold on Thursday in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The development marks a significant political realignment in Ondo State, as the APC continues to consolidate its structure ahead of future electoral contests.
