NEWS UPDATE: PDP BLASTS AGBOOLA AJAYI’S APC RETURN AS ‘THREAT-FREE POLITICAL STUNT’
PDP BLASTS AGBOOLA AJAYI’S APC RETURN AS ‘THREAT-FREE POLITICAL STUNT’ – ONDO OPPOSITION UNSHAKEN
Ondo State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scoffed at the return of former Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing it as a mere political stunt with no real impact on the opposition’s strength.
Party officials described Ajayi’s move as a predictable attempt driven by personal convenience rather than public interest. They emphasized that the PDP’s structure, strategy, and grassroots support remain unshaken despite the former deputy governor’s homecoming to the APC.
“The PDP in Ondo remains strong and focused on the welfare of the people. Such defections do not shake our determination to provide a credible alternative to the ruling party,” a spokesperson said firmly.
Ajayi, who previously defected from the PDP, had recently signaled his intention to return to his former political home, sparking speculation about the possible effect on both parties ahead of upcoming elections. But the PDP insists its machinery is intact, with outreach programs across the state continuing unabated.
Political observers note that while defections are common in Nigeria’s political landscape, the PDP’s reaction underscores its commitment to stability and resilience, portraying a party confident in its ability to withstand individual political maneuvers.
