TRADITIONAL RULERS INTERVENE AS FG LIFTS WANTED TAG ON SUNDAY IGBOHO

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been removed from the federal government’s wanted list, clearing the way for his possible return to Nigeria.

The development was confirmed by a spokesman, who disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved Igboho’s removal from the wanted list following the intervention of prominent Yoruba traditional rulers.

According to the spokesman, the monarchs appealed to the President to consider Igboho’s case in the interest of peace, reconciliation, and regional stability, assuring that the activist would conduct himself within the bounds of the law if allowed to return.

Sunday Igboho had been declared wanted by Nigerian security agencies in 2021 over alleged activities linked to agitation for the Yoruba Nation, leading to his eventual arrest in the Benin Republic and subsequent legal battles.

While official government sources are yet to issue a formal statement on the matter, the spokesman maintained that the President’s decision reflects a broader commitment to dialogue and de-escalation of tensions.

The development has since generated mixed reactions across the country, with supporters hailing it as a step toward national reconciliation, while critics have called for clarity from relevant authorities.

As of the time of filing this report, no official timeline has been announced for Igboho’s return to Nigeria.
