NUOLGS, NUIKAS MEET TRADITIONAL RULERS, APC LEADERS TO APPEAL TO HON. JIMI ODIMAYO OVER STUDENTS’ WELFARE IN OKITIPUPA/IRELE




The National Union of Okitipupa Local Government Students (NUOLGS) National Headquarters, in collaboration with the National Union of Ikale Students (NUIKAS) National Body, has held a strategic advocacy meeting with the Chairman of Obas and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmen in Okitipupa and Irele Local Government Areas of Ondo State.


The meeting centred on issues bordering on the welfare, development, and educational support of students within the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency.

According to the student bodies, the engagement became necessary following growing concerns among students over perceived neglect and the non-fulfilment of promises earlier made by the Honourable Member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jimi Odimayo. Acting in the collective interest of students, NUOLGS and NUIKAS sought the intervention of traditional rulers and party leaders to appeal to the lawmaker to renew his commitment to students’ development, empowerment, and academic support.


The NUOLGS delegation was led by its National President, Prince Adeoye Omoleminu, while the NUIKAS team was led by its National President, Comrade Moyewa Babatunde Samuel. During the meeting, the union leaders respectfully appealed to the Chairmen of Obas in both local governments to leverage their influence and moral authority to speak on behalf of students and encourage the Honourable Representative to fulfil his commitments to the student community.


Responding, the Chairman of Obas in Okitipupa Local Government, His Royal Majesty Oba William Akinmusayo Akinlade Uyi Oba I, the Halujagbo of Aye Kingdom, urged students to remain calm, peaceful, and united, assuring them that their concerns would be adequately communicated. Similarly, the Chairman of Obas in Irele Local Government, His Royal Majesty Oba Olorunsola Akinyelure, the Odogbo of Omi Kingdom, alongside the APC Chairmen in both local governments, pledged their support and promised to engage the Honourable Representative on the matter.


The unions stated that students would be deeply appreciative if the promises are fulfilled, noting that such gestures would significantly boost morale, enhance academic focus, and improve overall student welfare across the constituency.

NUOLGS and NUIKAS further reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful engagement, constructive dialogue, and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders. They emphasized their readiness to work with the Honourable Representative, traditional institutions, political leaders, and other stakeholders to foster a more supportive environment for students and ensure a better future for the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency.
