OIJEFON PAD A GIRL INITIATIVE EMPOWERS STUDENTS WITH MENSTRUAL HYGIENE EDUCATION, FREE SANITARY MATERIALS IN ILE-OLUJI
The OIJEFON Pad a Girl Initiative on Wednesday carried out another impactful edition of its Girl Child Empowerment and Menstrual Hygiene Outreach, reaching students in selected secondary schools in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.
The outreach, which has been sustained for several years, focused on promoting menstrual hygiene education, reinforcing the importance of education for the girl child, and building confidence while addressing issues of low self-esteem among young girls.
As part of the programme, beneficiaries received comprehensive support materials aimed at improving both their health and academic development. Each girl was given 10 packs of sanitary pads, described by the organisers as a one-year supply, alongside notebooks, mathematical sets, writing pens and backpacks.
The initiative visited Orere Grammar School, Ile-Oluji, and Ademulegun Memorial Comprehensive High School, Bamikemo, where students were sensitised on proper menstrual hygiene practices and encouraged to prioritise their education despite social and health-related challenges.
The programme was initiated by Akinro Temitope (née Ajimatanrareje), ably coordinated by her team. The team reaffirmed her commitment to empowering the girl child and ensuring that lack of access to sanitary materials does not hinder girls’ education or self-worth.
Participants and school authorities commended the initiative for its consistency and impact, noting that such interventions play a critical role in supporting girls’ wellbeing, school attendance and overall confidence.
The OIJEFON Pad a Girl Initiative continues to position itself as a grassroots-driven effort aimed at improving menstrual health awareness and promoting equal educational opportunities for girls across communities.
